So that in the coming ages, he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace.
Ephesians 2:7a
If you’re like me, I could name 10 losses in a minute. When I focus on losses, my spirit loses all awareness of God with me. What if I remove the gray loss-glasses and put on undimmed gains-glasses?
I spied a young squirrel frisking away and up a tree. While I can’t frisk, I do enjoy young things: chipmunks, chickadees, children, etc. Enjoyment counts as a gain. What else? A neighbor walked up, and God had him pray with me. Unexpected gain.
With gray glasses, I consider the loss of years, my naivety and its harsh consequences. But with clear glasses, I know God’s forgiveness of my foolish choices and begin forgiving myself. What if I search for gains, those moments of LIFE God activates in my days? What if I open my hands for whatever God puts in them?

God, into Thy hands I commend myself. Amen.
Reflect: Whisper the prayer above with your hands closed into fists. Then open them, palms up.
