First sit down and count the cost.
Luke 14:28
In the 14th chapter of Luke, Jesus talks to the crowds about the cost of discipleship. This path would not be an easy one to follow. After all, for Himself it would lead to the cross. He tells us to think about and ponder the ramifications of actions. He says to “first sit down and count the cost.”
Even as seniors, we are faced with new situations and new decisions. Am I capable of being a full-time caregiver? How will I handle being alone? Will I still be able to minister to people? To be sure, the Father will give us the power and direction to face those challenges. But it is wise to first sit down and think about how we are to proceed. Praise Him for His steadfast wisdom. Unload the burdens and doubts and concerns that are welled up inside of you. Then after prayer and guidance, step forward in faith and confidence.

Lord, thank You for Your advice to first ponder and then rely on Your counsel. Amen.
Reflect: Today, sit down and contemplate the plans that the Lord has for you.
