You have abandoned the love you had at first.
Revelation 2:4
Do you remember how it felt to fall in love? Better yet, do you remember your first love and the feelings you had, the excitement and anticipation?
Now compare these feelings to those in your relationship with God. Are you still inspired with a hopeful, strong urge to be in His presence? You can listen to Him and hear His voice if you read the words of Scripture aloud. You can be part of Him and rejoice in Him if you partake of His Supper.
He nurtured you in your mother’s womb and was your first love. Is He still your first love? His love for us surpasses our knowledge. Paul emphasizes its “breadth and length and height and depth” (Ephesians 3:18). What a privilege it is to have Him, even though we are old, as the prime object of our affection, as our “first love.”

Thank You, Lord, for loving us first. Amen.
Reflect: Take time to consider how much love you’ve received in your life through your relationship with God.
