Cultivate Contentment

But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

1 Timothy 6:8

In the past three years, I have faced many challenges and heartaches. It’s been difficult in this long season of suffering to cultivate contentment. When hard things happen in our lives, it can be tempting to complain about them. We can focus more on what’s bad than on what’s good. However, with God’s help, we can cultivate contentment for simple things, which can start to shift our perspective.

You can cultivate contentment by starting with the most basic blessings. As you put on your clothes each morning and enjoy your first meal, you can thank God for these blessings. This will help you focus on what’s good instead of what’s bad. As you watch for more blessings throughout your day, your perspective will shift. That’s how to cultivate contentment even when life is hard.

Sarah Geringer
Jackson, MO

Lord Jesus, thank You for my food and clothing. Help me cultivate contentment. Amen.

Reflect: Find at least 20 simple blessings today and keep the habit going each day this week.

Read: Philippians 4:11 and Hebrews 13:5
