… steadfast love and faithfulness … bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Proverbs 3:3

We all have one: an umbilicus AKA belly button. It is a humble reminder of a significant connection. Once it bound us to our mother as she provided us with nutrition, oxygen, warmth, and all we needed to grow and survive in the womb. Without it, without her, we would not be.

That cord of our past symbolizes the tie that binds us to our Lord: the faith He has given us. That faith in Christ’s sacrifice for us provides us with all we need to grow in His Word and survive as a child of God, to enter His kingdom when He returns. What a joyful reunion that will be! Now we can truly smile as we contemplate our navel.

Jill Rodenbeck

Lord, thank You for our mothers and for the tie that binds our hearts in Your love. Amen.

Reflect: Sing “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” while contemplating your faith connections.

Read: Isaiah 61:1-3 and Colossians 3:13-15
