But you have come to Mount Zion … to innumerable angels in festal gathering … to the assembly of the firstborn … and to Jesus.
Hebrews 12:22-24a
Inside the room, blinking lights and rhythmic beeping come from a machine. From the solitary bed, a tired man smiles as I walk in. This small room is filled with a lifetime of sanctuaries: from the glorious cathedral with robed choirs to the simple, white-walled church with the stark, wooden altar cross. All the sanctuaries from all the years culminate here in this room. The faithful pastor arrives with the Lord’s Supper and the Word of God. Loved ones join hearts in liturgy and hymns that comfort, witnessed by angels, archangels, and all the company of heaven. From the arms of his mother and father, beside his wife and children, and with the saints of God in many places, the man learned to know the love of Jesus. At dawn, death is conquered. The man looks up and smiles at Someone he has known his whole life.

Reflect: Remember those who brought you to the waters of Baptism. If possible, thank them.
