When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:51 ESV
As I have gotten older, I find that I like to read a Bible verse from several translations. The varying word choice can emphasize or clarify thought. This verse in Luke 9:51 is a good example: CEV says, he “made up his mind,” and the NIV says he “resolutely set out.” All three emphasize that Jesus made a choice. He intentionally, willingly, started out and followed the ministry journey set out for Him. During His ministry, Jesus taught, performed miracles, laughed, cried, and prayed. He was also ridiculed, beaten, crucified, died, and was buried. All this, so that by conquering death, our sins would be forgiven. He sacrificed Himself so that you and I can live forever. When I think about Jesus’s sacrifice, my heart bursts with gratitude for the choice He made willingly and with joy that I’ll get to be with Him eternally.

Jesus, thank You for loving me and choosing to sacrifice Yourself. Amen.
Reflect: Think about the joy of seeing Jesus face to face.
