Do not be conformed to this world … discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
Everyone I know hates change. We like comfortable surroundings where we know what to expect. We want to fit in. We do not want to be seen as different.
It is uncomfortable being different. People of this world might look at us funny if we pray in a restaurant. They might sneer as we help those in need. They might laugh if we speak of Jesus’ power to save us.
Paul’s words to the church in Rome and to us are very direct. We have to change our thinking. With the Holy Spirit, we continually toss out worldly thoughts and fears from our mind to renew it. As our mind is renewed, emptied of thoughts from this world, we understand more clearly what God intends for us. What He intends for us is acceptable, good, and perfectly heavenly.

Father, renew my mind so that I clearly see You and Your directions for me instead of this world. Amen.
Reflect: In what ways do you still conform to this world?
