[Christ] makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
Ephesians 4:16b
Younger people may find it humorous when we seniors converse about our aches and ills. But we know all too well what it’s like when some body part is not functioning properly or is hurting.
But perhaps that puts us in the best position to understand St. Paul’s analogy of the church as a human body. If each of us is a part of the Body of Christ, we understand the loss when someone no longer can contribute to the community.
We can celebrate that the Body of Christ is one that doesn’t wear out. It continually grows and builds itself up. All of its parts, seniors included, contribute to that growth, not by our physical labor, but by our connection to the Body’s head, Jesus, and by our love for each other and those around us.

Jesus, help me build Your Body today. Amen.
Reflect: Think of today’s devotion time as building up not just you but the whole body of Christ, as well.
