But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother …
Psalm 131:2
Through most of life’s seasons, my days have been filled with non-stop schedules and goals to be accomplished before bedtime. In addition, thoughts and concerns often race through my mind. Was I truly content?
In my older years, I have discovered the need for regular naps after lunch. When I awake, God gives me a peaceful gratitude for His countless gifts of protection, salvation, and opportunities for service. I feel refreshed and energized. Psalm 131 captures the joys of turning to the Lord — my soul calmed and quieted like a weaned child with its mother. My entire life rests in His hands by God’s grace for Christ’s sake through faith. Meaningful service continues with hope in the Lord. Paul adds, “For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content” (Philippians 4:11).
