“… Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.”
Luke 24:29
Another year is winding down. The passing of time and the aging of our own bodies and minds may make us feel like “the day is now far spent.” Yet that phrase wasn’t said out of regret. It was spoken by two disciples who didn’t recognize Jesus after His resurrection. But His words had stirred their hearts, and they wanted Him to stay.
What a comfort to know that Jesus still stays. “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b). Whether it’s the end of the year, the end of life, or the end of time, Jesus is always with us. “The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore” (Psalm 121:8). As we leave one year and enter another, Jesus always abides.

Timeless Lord, thank You for guarding my going out and coming in for another year. Amen.
Reflect: Jesus’ promise to be with us follows right after His commission to share the Gospel.
