“… Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure.”
Luke 13:8
Once again, we come to the end of another year. Our text is the story of the fig tree. It was not productive. The owner told the gardener, “Cut it down … Why bother with it any longer?” The gardener answered, “Give it one more chance.”
At times, we are like the fig tree, unproductive, bearing little, if any fruit. Yet, the Lord gives us another chance. Like the fig tree, you and I won’t be cut down. Our past will not be held against us. We are forgiven. We can begin anew. As we end this year, let’s make the most of this second chance as we begin the next. Let it fill us with new hope. The new year is as bright as the promises of God. We are given another chance. Praise God for this second chance. Make the most of it.

Thank You, Lord, for a second chance. Help me to make the most of it. Amen.
