A Parent’s Expectation

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord …

Psalm 127:3

A child brings so much hope and happiness for a parent. They set expectations and goals they want their child to achieve. Yet, I remember holding my youngest child when she was only a month old and hearing the pulmonologist tell us she has CF (Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease with a shortened life expectancy). I was devastated. I didn’t think she would live long enough to fulfill the dreams, goals, and expectations I had for her.

Since CF comes in many forms, ranging from mild to severe, I did not know what to expect. I had to trust God. Over the years, we learned that her condition was mild and would probably not affect her much (thank God)! Now, I have renewed hope that she will fulfill the plans that God has for her. She is currently studying to become a paramedic and will be able to help others.

Celeste Cummins

Dear Jesus, thank You, for the promise of hope. Amen.

Reflect: If you know a paramedic, thank them for the service they provide for others.

Read: Philippians 4:4-9 and Psalm 103
