Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Psalm 95:1
I have been a pastor for 25 years and nothing gives me more joy in worship than when I hear or see someone singing along with the hymns or songs. I get especially giddy when I see or hear a child doing it, following the example of their parents or grandparents. Even if it is off-key, I still love it because those joyful noises are going straight up into God’s ears, and He is filled with joy in hearing them. Seeing the whole community of believers joyfully singing often brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Older generations need to remember that there are little eyes and ears all over the place, watching and listening to you. Are you filled with joy in the Lord’s house? How about outside of it? If so, then make a joyful noise to the rock of your salvation! Live your redeemed life out — in songs of praise of both word and deed.
