Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
A child’s hospital room is generally not a happy place. There is the normal bustle of staff changing drip bottles or administering medication while family members sit anxiously awaiting the next doctor’s visit.
Suddenly a beautiful golden retriever enters the room. The dog’s trainer smiles at the child in the bed, and says, “Hi can Devorah visit you?” The child sits up in his bed, a bright smile suddenly spreading across his face. Soon the mood in the room has lightened as the furry visitor is surrounded with hugs and friendly greetings. Comfort Dogs are present in situations of stress, tragedy, and pain, offering their kind comfort just by being there. Devorah and her canine colleagues can teach us that words are not necessary to bring comfort to another. In the name of Jesus, just be there!

God of comfort, through words and in silence, Your healing presence holds us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflect: Where have you seen God’s comfort shared in silence?
