Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.

Luke 12:51

When Jesus spoke of division in Luke 12, He named the most tender bonds — parent and child, mother and daughter. His words remind us that following Him is not always met with harmony. Sometimes, faith in Christ sets us apart from those we love most. Many parents and grandparents know this pain. They hold fast to Christ’s teachings while children or grandchildren choose the world’s ways. The ache of that divide is real. Yet, Jesus prepared us for it: His peace is not the absence of conflict but reconciliation with God. In the midst of strained relationships, we cling to the deeper promise that Christ’s peace is eternal. His Spirit sustains us when family ties feel frayed. And His grace is wide enough to reach across generations, even when we cannot.

Lord Jesus, You are our peace. Strengthen us when division wounds our hearts. Keep us faithful in witness and patient in prayer, trusting that Your love can bridge even the deepest divides. Amen.
