For those grandparents that are blessed to live near their grandchildren, the year can be spent doing weekend activities, but for those of us who may only get to spend time together during summer vacations, those times together are very precious. Below are a list of activities you can do with your grandchildren at any age. Make the most of this time!
YOUNGER CHILDREN
► Visit the zoo.
► Build a blanket fort and read books together.
► Go on a nature walk.
► Make popsicles.
► Read to them from a children’s Bible before you tuck them into bed.
ELEMENTARY AGES
► Go fishing, hiking, or swimming.
► Go on a treasure hunt in the yard. Create the map ahead of time with the treasure being a special treat or prize.
► Paint rocks together.
► Play lawn games such as corn hole, balloon volleyball, or croquet.
► Memorize a scripture passage as a theme for your time together.
TEENAGERS
► Play miniature golf or frisbee golf.
► Have a build-your-own-pizza night.
► Attend a summer festival or parade.
► Make a campfire and enjoy s’mores together.
► Study and memorize a verse from Proverbs each day.
COLLEGE AGE
► Go garage sale hunting for something for their dorm room.
► Attend a community theater production.
► Have them teach you how to use a new technology, such as Marco Polo. It’s a great way to stay in touch.
► Have them create a bucket list of activities they would like to do with you.
► Go to church together and then out to brunch. Catch up on what is happening in their life.
